Historic House Finds New Home in Old School Square Historic District

In November 2019, a historically-significant house was saved from demolition when Azure Development donated the building to the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). Azure Development partnered with the CRA Board of Commissioners, Modern Movers and City of Delray Beach to relocate the home – literally. The house was moved to a new location within the Old School Square Historic District – not only rescuing the significant structure, but also preserving the history of Delray Beach that it represents.

The single-family home was constructed in the late 1930s and was designed by the first registered architect in Delray Beach, Samuel Ogren, Sr. Often referred to as the “Father of Delray Beach Architecture”. Mr. Ogren designed many of the famous structures found in historic Delray Beach, including the Sandoway House, the Old School Square Gymnasium, the Arcade Building, and the villas in the Marina District.

The historic house has been fully renovated and brought up to current building codes and is now being used by the CRA for offices and conference rooms. The exterior of the building has been painted in light blues, a nod to Azure Development’s signature logo in honor of their role in saving the building.
